Last Fall we were having some work done in our house and my studio was packed away while the room was painted and floors were sanded. During that time, I packed up a travel art kit of small collage ephemera in take out sushi containers, a liquid glue pen, and a mini Eccolo journal... a lot like a Moleskine with lined pages. I decided to use it for collage because it had notes in it from whomever used it before me and I wanted to cover those up.
Filling these pages gave me a different view of collage...I would just put in whatever caught my eye and eventually each page had a focus, at least for me. I knew if it needed one more big item, or a smaller item, and I dug through my little ephemera kits to search for the perfect item. I wasn't too fussy, and I think that is evident. It was such a fun project, very loose and relaxed.
Eventually this book split at the seams three times and then separated from the binding and cover all together. I repurposed the binding and about 40 blank pages for a collaboration journal that is currently travelling the world, and rebound this booklet into a little collection of treasures. Here is a video flip through for you to enjoy!
