For the Season of Story I decided to focus on the "story" of landscapes. When the season started I had just finished a plein air landscape painting class (see that blog post here). I took the landscape class as a foundation for a series of cold wax/oil paintings that I am working on for an exhibit in August 2019. I had also just published two online gelli printing tutorials for Get Messy (see one here and the second here)....I had a lot of gelli printed papers on hand. So, what I wanted out of the Season of Story was to capture the landscape sketches I had collected, use up some gelli prints, and think about color and layering for my paintings. I'm not sure this is a direct 'story' but for me it was the story of the landscapes I was thinking about. I also did make some papers with hidden journalling. I painted scrap papers in colors I wanted more and scrawled some journalling into the wet paint. You can see some of that script peek through which I think adds a nice depth.
I made this pamphlet stitch journal out of old grocery bags. I took about 6 bags, trimmed the bottom and sides off, and cut the largest side in half...so four pages per bag pretty much. I had more than enough pages for the journal. I coated a few pages in white gesso and left some of the white showing through to capture some scenes with white farmhouses. These are a few of my favorites, not the whole book. Please have a look and let me know what you think!
